Why does the warm air rise up and over the cold air at a cold front

    I think it is because the cold air is more dense than the hot air so the less dense air which is the warm air rises

    Because the warm air rises and the cold front goes down, and then the warm air is forced to go up by/because (of) the cold up lift. When ever a cold front appears, the warm air will always go up.
