Overheating in electrical circuits is caused by too much electrical draw on the circuit. The increased flow of electricity through the circuit causes the temperature of the circuit to increase beyond it's design parameters. The increased heat can cause surrounding objects to catch fire as a result of the circuit sparking, exploding or burning.
