In nucleotide excision pair, damaged DNA is excised by the enzyme Nuclease. Nucleotide excision repair is important in that it removes DNA damage induced by utraviolet light which causes non-helix distorting base lesions. This process is carried out by nucleases enzymes which break down nucleic acids.
