The molecule which is used to supply energy for respiration is adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is formed from the phosphorylation (the binding of one phosphate molecule) of one adenosine diphosphate (ADP) molecule. It is through this process that energy is dtored in the ATP molecule that is produced.
