    1. The earth is said to have a balanced energy budget when the incoming and the outgoing of energy at the earth's surface is equal. The incoming energy refers to the energy from the sun which enters into the earth's surface while the outgoing energy refers to all those that leave the earth surface and enter into the atmosphere. For the energy on the earth to be balanced, the energy that is entering the earth surface and that that is leaving it must be equal.

    2. It is important for the earth to have a balanced energy budget because the existence of living things on the earth depend on it. All the energy on the earth is obtained from the sun. The plants use the energy of the sun to make their own foods and other animals depends on these food for survival. The temperature on the earth is also regulated via the energy balance, because for the earth temperature to be stable over a long period of time, the energy coming in and leaving the earth surface must be equal.
