    The mountains are formed as a result of the movement of the Earth's tectonic plates.

    A. Himalayas - two continents coliding

    The Himalayas lifted up as a result of the collision between the Eurasian and Indian continental plates. The Himalayas are still rising by more than 1 cm per year as India continues to move northwards into Asia.

    B. Grad Tetons - plates spreading

    Grand Tetons is a fault block mountain range. It consist of some of the oldest rocks. They are remnants of accumulated sedimentary rocks that once filled a basin between preexisting mountains and which are now partially worn away.

    C. Aleutian - two ocean plates colliding

    The Aleutian range in in southwest Alaska is part of the Aleutian volcanic arc. And volcanic arcs are formed from two ocean plates colliding.

    The Andes are a result of the subduction of oceanic crust beneath the South American plate.
