    Trigeminal neuralgia (Tic douloureux) is a severe, stabbing pain in one side of the face. It affects the trigeminal nerve and his branches, which supply sensation to the face, by compressing the nerve. A light touch on the place affected will trigger the pain. The pain usually goes away after a few minutes.

    Tic douloureux is usually a disease of middle age or later life. Affects more women than men, and more people with multiple sclerosis than the general population.
