    B. Haploid cells! Haploid cells have half the total number of chromosomes needed to create an organism. For example, humans have 46 chromosomes, so human haploid cells have 23. Fertilization occurs when a female haploid cell (an egg) is fertilized by a male haploid cell (a sperm). Together, they create 46 chromosomes and may grow into a human!
