The nervous system controls the rate of respiration. You medulla oblongata senses the acidity and co2 in your blood and will signal you diaphragm to contract or relax. Your cardiovascular system transports oxygen and carbon dioxide. Blood cells receive oxygen and deposit carbon dioxide at the alveoli. The muscular system provides the effectors required for respiration. Smooth muscles line capillaries. Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood. Also your diaphragm is the muscle that allows you to inhale and exhale.
