Berry-shaped bacteria in twisted chains are called streptococcus. Streptococcus is a genus of gram-positive coccus or spherical bacteria. Streptococci bacteria divide along a single axis, so as they grow they tend to form pairs or chains that may appear bent or twisted. Whereas staphylococci, which divide along multiple axes, thereby forming irregular grape-like clusters of cells.
