Pinocytosis is the only mechanism in which material would not leave a cell. With the budding of small vesicles, this mechanism takes material into a cell instead of releasing it. Through mechanisms like active transport and diffusion, particles can leave a cell or be brought into it, but pinocytosis only allows for ingestion of materials.
