Interphase is the longest phase of the cell cycle.

    Explanation:

Interphase consists of the G1 phase and S phase and G2 phase. During the G1 phase, the size of the cell grows and the duplication of organelles takes place along with protein synthesis. During S phase which is also known as synthesis phase or chromosome duplication phase of the cell cycle when the synthesis of DNA (replication) and proteins takes place.

This phase is important in the cell cycle as the DNA content is needed to be doubled before the cell division which occurs in the mitotic phase. The cell size increases and volume and prepare for the G2 phase.
