The two systems of classification commonly used for the identification of the specimens are the artificial system and the natural system.

The artificial system of classification is based on the morphological characters which are considered equal whereas in the natural system the morphological characters which are considered are the floral and sexual characters.

Artificial system includes both habit and habitat for classification whereas the natural selection does not include the habit as a criterion for grouping.

In artificial system, homology is never studied which is done in the natural system of classification.
