In a certain prairie community, a dominant prairie grass species has recently been infected with a virus that disrupts one of the electron transport proteins in the chloroplasts of infected cells. (a) Describe the most likely effects on cellular processes (be specific as to which processes and molecules are most likely to be directly affected). (b) Describe and explain the mos likely effects on individual infected plants.

    a) If the electron transport protein is disrupted in the chloroplast then ATP production will not occur. ATP is required for the light-independent process like in the calving cycle by which carbohydrate production takes place. Therefore disruption in electron transport chain will reduce the production of carbohydrates and cellular respiration will also decrease.

    b) The effect will be not good on the individual plant because ATP is important for the cell to grow and remain metabolically active and fit. Therefore this virus will hinder the growth and repairability of plant and would weaken the plant.
