Flies are destroying a farmer's crop despite years of investing in pesticides. Investigating an ecological pest control approach, he learns that the female flies that are killing the crop mate only once, lay their eggs, and then die. In fact, he can purchase sterile male flies to release around the crop to keep these flies from reproducing. Such a strategy representsA) cultural control.

B) natural enemies control.

C) genetic control.

D) natural chemical control.

    Answer

Such strategy is called as natural enemies control

    Explanation:

natural enemies control is the strategy which includes the use of predators or competitors to control the growth of other organism. its not necessary that the organism is of the same species or different. In this case the male flies will keep the female flies from reproducing and thus minimizing the effects of female flies on the crops. In a research it was shown that male flies produces specific proteins in the seminal fluid which changes the behavior of female flies, so the male flies will cause and affect the reproductive ability of female flies (partner) in order to increase changes of their own reproductive ability as a result of reproductive competition.

this type of control is counted under the strategy of natural enemies control as we are using organism to control the pest control.

The correct answer is B) natural enemies control.

    Explanation:

Natural enemies control exposes a population of organisms to another population (from different species or the same) in order to control it. The control can be made through the sexual barrier, like in this case, releasing sterile males, or through predation, where one population or species can eat the other one without representing a risk of also being a pest.
