A geneticist isolates a gene for a specific trait under study. She also isolates the corresponding mRNA. Upon comparison, the mRNA is found to contain 1,000 fewer bases than the DNA sequence. Did the geneticist isolate the wrong DNA?

    The geneticist did not isolate the wrong DNA.

    Explanation:

    During maturation of mRNA before export of the nucleus, splicing occurs by splicosomes which splices away non coding regions of mRNA, introns. Hence mature mRNA extracted by the geneticists from the cytoplasm is shorter in bases than the DNA sequence.
