How does a cell membrane differ from a cell wall

It is the outer non-living part of the cell but not an organelle which encloses cell membrane and provides a fixed shape. It is an outermost, flexible, living organelle of the cell which provides shape to the cell. The cell wall is elastic. The cell membrane is non-elastic.

Cell membrane is present in all cells while cell wall is only present in plants, bacteria, fungi, algae.

Cell wall is made up of cellulose whereas cell membrane is made up of lipids and proteins.

Cell wall is nonliving whereas cell membrane is living.
