When individual components in an organism interact with each other or the environment to create novel structures and functions, the resulting characteristics are called emergent properties.

    Explanation:

Emergent properties represent the properties of the whole or a group and elaborate on the collaborative wholesome functioning rather than individual functioning.

This wholesome functioning of a group is contributed by interaction of the components of the group.

Like, the behavior of ants while building colonies is a result of emergent property of ants due to collaboration of functioning of each ant in the colony.

Similarly, although each neuron functions in neurotransmission, human consciousness and various emotions like fear, happiness etc are a result of emergent properties of brain as a whole.
