10. A student purchases and weighs 5 pounds of carrots from a local grocery store. She notices that the grocery store constantly sprays its produce with distilled water. After returning home, she weighs the carrots again and discovers that they weigh only 4.2 lbs. They also no longer seem as crisp and taut. Provide a possible explanation for why the carrots weighed more at the store, based on the information learned in this lab.

    In this scenario, the carrots at the store was sprayed with distilled water. This caused a net influx of water into it.

    Note that when the carrots was sold out, it was removed from the hypoyinic environment (which was a result of spraying the carrots in the store with distilled water) promoting the process of osmosis (movement of water via a semi-permeable membrane from where there is a higher concentration of water to where there is a lower concentration of water) to diffuse water from within the carrot resulting in a resultant wilt and loss of weight.
