A population of cottontail rabbit gives birth to an average of eight kids baby rabbits per litter and it's only has one predator. However an average of only two kids per litter actually lives to maturity which of these might explain this low survival rate

    The low survival rate was due the predator activity on the baby rabbits and other struggle for survival that may be involved.

    Normally the rabbit can give birth to eight kid baby rabbit per litter but in this case only two kid baby rabbit live up to maturity which means predator activity on the kid baby rabbit was high.
