In an asexually reproducing organism it is expected that the offspring will be genetically identical to the parent. However, in one particular event of asexual reproduction the offspring was found to be differing from the parent. The reason behind this could be independent assortment of alleles mutation crossing over of non-sister chromatids cross over of sister chromatids

    Mutations are the sudden and random changes in the genome of the organisms. A mutation can alter a genetic trait by changing the gene sequence. Radiations such as x-rays, gamma rays, alpha particles, ultraviolet radiation, some chemical substances like bromine, etc. can cause mutations. Asexual reproduction produces the progeny that is genetically identical to the parent. However, any exposure of the progeny of the asexual reproduction to certain mutagen can cause genetic variations in it and can make it genetically different from the parent.
