    Answer: Cellular respiration

    Explanation:

Respiration is the process by which cells produces chemical energy (in form of ATP) by the consumption of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide.

The balanced equation is stated below:

    C 6 H 12 O 6 (s) + 6 O 2 (g) → 6 CO2 (g) + 6 H 2 O (l) + heat

In the presence of oxygen (O 2), carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are consumed are chemically broken down to yield pyruvate (an important intermediate in the metabolism of proteins and carbohydrates and fats).

These pyruvate molecules enter the mitochondria and become oxidized by the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA). The products of this process are carbon dioxide and water, but the energy transferred is used to break bonds in ADP as the third phosphate group is added to form ATP (Adenosine triphosphate).
