    Answer / Explanation:

The Miller-Urey experiment simulated hypothetical conditions present on early Earth which attempted to investigate the origin of life.

It used a collection of glass tubes and vessels containing water, hydrogen, methane and ammonia, which were believed to be the main components of the atmosphere on early earth. The earth's atmosphere was simulated using electrons, heat and cycling of the chemicals.

The experiment showed that this was sufficient to produce amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, which carry out essentially all living processes.
