Myelin electrically insulates the neurons and allows saltatory conduction.

    Explanation:

The presence of myelin sheath insulates the axon and increases the speed of action potential-dependent conduction of nerve impulse. In myelinated axons, most of the voltage-gated channels are located in the Nodes of Ranvier. Therefore, the nerve impulse carried by Na + and K + moves mainly at the nodes.

In these neurons, action potential "leap" from node to node. This is called "saltatory conduction". Action potential escapes long segments of the myelinated axolemma as the nerve impulse flows from one node to the next. Therefore, the conduction of nerve impulse along a myelinated neuron is much faster than the one flowing along an unmyelinated axon of the same diameter.
