Organel hanya terdapat dalam sel tumbuhan dan beberapa prototaip seperti alga. Sel haiwan tidak mempunyai kloroplas. Chloroplasts berfungsi untuk menukar tenaga cahaya Matahari menjadi gula yang boleh digunakan oleh sel.
