An atom is made out of three different sub-atomic particles. Protons have a positive charge and lie in the nucleus of the atom. Electrons have a negative charge and are seen whizzing around the nucleus. Neutrons have a neutral charge and lie in the nucleus with the protons. The nucleus is surrounded by rings carrying the electrons.

An atom itself is made up of three tiny kinds of particles called subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and the neutrons make up the center of the atom called the nucleus and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud.
