Phosphofructokinase is an allosteric enzyme in the pathway that breaks down glucose to produce ATP. Regulation of glycolysis is directly related to the level of ATP and citrate. If ATP or citrate levels are high, phosphofructokinase is inhibited. What will happen to this enzyme when ATP levels drop?

    Phosphofructokinase will be activated

    Explanation:

Phosphofructokinase (PFK-1) is an enzyme of glycolysis that catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose 6-phosphate to fructose 1,6-bisphosphate. The enzyme uses ATP as a phosphate group donor for this phosphorylation. It is a regulatory enzyme and the reaction catalyzed by it is irreversible. The activity of PFK-1 is increased whenever the cell's ATP supply is depleted or when the ATP breakdown products, ADP and AMP, are in excess.
