The chemical composition of the side chain determines the function of the amino acids. The function of a protein depends on the sequence and the number of amino acids in it.

    Explanation:

The function of an amino acid primarily depends on the different side chains present in an amino acid. These different side chains are normally referred as the "R Group".

The protein function is determined by the series of amino acids that the protein possesses. A change in any one of the amino acids will cause change in the structure of the protein. When the structure of a protein changes, it will not be able to perform its function. Hence, the structure of amino acids plays a vital role in the functions of a cell.
