What led to scientists accepting Mendel's ideas

Mendel applied statistical methods and logics for analysing his results. He kept accurate records of his experiment, giving all details of number and type of individuals, which are a necessity in genetic studies. He did experiment on number of plants so chance of errors are little in large samples.
