Oceanic crust is usually denser than continental crust. This is because the oceanic crust which usually holds and bears the weight of the oceans has ocean water percolated into its rock pores. Data from convergent boundary show that whenever continental and oceanic plates collide, the oceanic one is subsided under the continental one. This is due to this difference in density, as the crusts of the earth glide over a semi-plastic mantle below.
