Heterozygote has a potential advantage as it acts as a carrier for both of the alleles for a gene. Hence, if a dominant trait is beneficial to an organism it will become more abundant as the heterozygotes will also show the occurrence of that trait.

On the other hand, heterozygote has a disadvantage that the effect of a recessive allele cannot be seen in that particular organism. If the recessive allele is more beneficial to the organism than the recessive allele then it would be a disadvantage as the organism will not be able to display that characteristic.
