Topoisomerases are enzymes that are part of the DNA replication machinery, they have the function of temporally breaking down and rejoining the two strands of DNA, without these enzymes the processes of replication, transcription cannot be carried out. For this reason, scientists have begun to use drugs that inhibit the function of these enzymes, there are reported scientific studies where scientifics said that these drugs inhibit the topoisomerase relief reaction, thus inducing breaks in the DNA that affects cancer cells.
