When an ethnographer starts a social study he or she need to observe as much as he or she can the culture, the people, the common and uncommon situations. To collect as much information as they can. Of course at the begging the new group will react strange because there is a new member, but by passing the time, they used to the presence of this member and the behavior returns to the "normal" state.
