    Explanation:

    All living organisms contain genetic material (DNA) which contains segments called GENES that holds information needed by the organism. In 1941, George W Beadle and Edward Tatum proposed the one gene/one enzyme hypothesis when they stated that one gene is directly responsible for the production of an enzyme, needed for metabolic processes.

    This was found out not to be false but not exactly true as well. Enzymes are proteinous molecules that results from the expression of genes but It was later discovered that some genes or gene parts also encoded non-enzyme proteins and short polypeptides. Hence, it was later altered and called one gene/one polypeptide.
