    a. Disruptive selection

    Explanation:

Imagine there is a population of red-colored, white colored, and green colored wings butterflies on a red - petals, green leaves hibiscus flower plants.

Generally the red-colored wings will be camouflaged by the red-colored hibiscus flower petals, while the green color of the leaves will masked the green colored butterflies. Therefore the white-colored butterflies will be exposed to predators and therefore selected against by environmental pressure leading to disruptive selection.

Consequently in the butterfly population, there is increased genetic variation in red and green butterflies population, with consequent population diverse.

Therefore when an extreme value for a trait (red and green wings colors) is favoured for intermediate trait (white). The term that describes this is called Disruptive selection. One of the naturally selected wings may migrate from the population leading to speciation.

    Answer: A - Disruptive selection

Explanation: Disruptive selection increases genetic variation as the population begins to be more different when selection existing in nature chooses multiple phenotypes reaching the highest degree which each have particular benefits. However, they tend to make single-celled life form that has interposed characteristics to produce smaller offspring while allowing the organisms that have the highest degree of characteristics to produce more offspring.
