Food chain is the chain in which the organisms of higher trophic level feeds on its immediate lower trophic level. Plant is the autotroph i. e., it produces its own food and animals and insects of higher trophic level feeds on it.

Ten percent of energy is passed from one trophic level to other trophic level as some portion of the energy is to carry out metabolic activity. Food web is interlinking of numerous food chains.
