Anaphase in mitosis and meiosis II involves the separation of the two sister chromatids at the centromere and then the each migrates to opposite ends of the pole which is aided by the spindle assembly. Anaphase in meiosis I involves the separation of a pair of homologous chromosomes to opposite ends of the poles.

    The is the stage of cell division after metaphase, preceding telophase. it is the phase of splitting and migration new daughter chromatids to the opposite poles of the cells by kinotochore microtubes. The chromosomes also condense to mark the end of this stage.

    It occurs in both mitotic and meiotic cell division, but different in meiosis I, but similar in meiosis II and mitosis.

    Failure of separation and migration of replicated chromosomes and sister chromatids to opposite poles, result in many birth defects. This condition is called nondisjunction. E. g Down Syndrome.
