The species respond to their environment by showing adaptation as a result of the mutations. When these mutations are selected or favoured by nature then the adaption is thought to be the result of the natural selection.

The species evolved to survive in their environment that is their mutated traits must increase the reproductive fitness in the environment. This shows that adaptation or evolution of a species depends on the environment.

So if the change in environment is very fast, it acts as an evolutionary pressure on the species and influences the ability of the species to evolve.
