The sponge uses this structure for feeding. It is located in whip-like appendages (the flagella) located in the sponge. It generate water currents as the flagella beat the water current, and as food particles passes through with the water current, it (choanocytes) trap these, and ingested it by in folding of its inner membranes. a process called phagocytosis.
