    Explanation:

    Some genes are present closely on the same chromosome. These genes are the linked genes as they are least likely to be recombined by the process of crossing over. These genes are transmitted together to the next generation as they do not assort independently.

    On the other hand, the genes that are present far from each other on the same chromosome are more likely to undergo the process of crossing over. Crossing over occurs during pachytene of prophase-I of meiosis and produces recombinant chromatids that have new allele combinations. Therefore, the distantly located genes have more chances to be recombined.
