    Mitosis can be described as a cell division process in which two daughter cells are formed which are identical to one another and to the parent cell. Many unicellular eukaryotes reproduce by this phenomenon.

    However, multicellular eukaryotes do not tend to reproduce by mitosis. The sex cells of multicellular organisms divide by the process of meiosis. Meiosis can be described as a process by which four new haploid cells are formed which have half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell.
