    People tend to justify a past decision, to reduce the stress of the outcome of a decision taken, based on false information. In this case it could not be proved that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, more people started to still support the war based on other reasons. Like the liberation of the Iraq population from an authoritarian leader.
