Due to a mistake during meiosis, a plant species produces gametes that are diploid instead of haploid. The gametes now have twice as many chromosomes as they should have. These gametes are not able to mate with normal gametes of that species anymore. However, they are able to mate with other gametes that were produced due to the same mistake. Over time the population of plants with double the number of chromosomes increased. As per the biological species concept, these plants are now considered a separate species.     Autopolyploidy will appear when an individual possess more that two sets of chromosomes both from the same parental species

    Therefore, since a new species was formed as a result of autopolyploidy. The type of speciation that occurred was Sympatric speciation.
