    Answer AND Explanation:

Absorption is the process by which products of digestion are taken up from the intestines across the epitheium into the bloodstream. Iit takes place in the small intestines.

The mammalian intestines are relatively long, coiled and folded. Their being long creates a large surface area for the action of digestive enzmes and ansoption of end products of digestion and other nutrients and allows time for digestion and absorption.

The intestinal wall villi and microvilli further increase surface area for absorption. The villi contain smooth muscles which enable them to contract and expand thus bringing them into contact with newly digested food.
