    The negative solution is - 1

    Explanation:

    Let the number is x.

    According to the question:

    4 times of x will be 4x

    5 less of the square of that number will be x² - 5

    Therefore,

    4x = x² - 5

    Make this equation in the form of a quadratic equation

    x² - 4x - 5 = 0

    (x - 5) (x + 1) = 0,

    The value of x = 5, and x = - 1

    The negative value of x of two solutions is - 1.
