Carbohydrates are macro molecule that are able to be quickly broken down and produce energy for the cellular functions. It was one of the reason that proteins may heave left out.

Proteins are not responsible majorly for the energy production but for the produce amino acid to function as structural unit for the protein production. Breaking down of the protein is for more of protein synthesis rather than energy production.
