The cell grows, matures and eventually copies its DNA during the interphase.

Interphase can be described as the phase of a cell cycle in which the cell spends most of its time. During the interphase the cell gets its required nutrients and it metabolizes these nutrients. The cell grows during this phase and carries out its normal functions. During this phase a cell gets prepared for mitosis or meiosis.

There are three stages of interphase: G1 phase, S phase and G2 phase.
