DNA is the genetic material of all the organism except few viruses. RNA is considered as the first genetic material because it can acts as catalyst. RNA is still present as genetic material in some viruses only.

On the basis of properties DNA and RNA molecule, the question that can be arised whether RNA has the ability to provide the template for the DNA assembly. This enable the formation of a stable molecule like DNA that acts as the genetic material.
