What do scientists know about fossils found in deep layers of rock compared to those found in higher layers?

    The fossils found in deeper layers of rock are older.

    Explanation:

    This is because as the years go by more rock accumulates covering old fossils and creating space for new ones. The older fossils are then found in deeper layers of rock because of the newer layer that cover it.
