Describe and give examples of the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Discuss how these symptoms are related to the chronic and acute patterns of development in schizophrenia.

    Positive symptoms: Movement disorders, highly exaggerated perceptions or actions, lack concentration, delusions, hallucinations and so on.

    Negative symptoms: Avolition, alogia, apathy, emotional swings, etc.

    Positive symptoms:

    examples:-

    Movement disorders: A person with schizophrenia repeat the same movements over, again and again, catatonic.

    hallucinations: some persons may often hear voices in their heads, they might whisper, murmur, get angry, refuse to eat feeling that they are poisoned and illusion feel like things move on their body.

    Negative symptoms:

    examples:-

    The person may not seem to enjoy anymore or react to pleasure happenings, flat talks without emotions, becoming hermit, lack of remembering things like phone numbers, being numb.

    Schizophrenia affects people throughout the lifespan although new instances of the illness are most likely to occur in early adulthood.

    Male and Female show different patterns of susceptibility for developing schizophrenic symptoms. In the male, it occurs between the ages of 18 and 25 years. In a female, it occurs between 25 and 30 years, and then again around 40 years of age.
